Cambodia’s Highest Bridge Temporarily Opens to Public Ahead of Khmer New Year

PHNOM PENH, April 11 – Bridge No. 28, the highest bridge in Cambodia, was temporarily opened to the public at 6 a.m. this morning to facilitate travel during the Khmer New Year holiday, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.

Located on National Road No. 10 in Pursat province, the bridge spans the Russey Chrum River in Chhay Luk village, Osom commune, Veal Veng district. It measures 90 meters in height, 537 meters in length, and 10 meters in width.

The bridge will remain open for seven days, from April 11 to 17, 2025. During this period, only family cars and motorbikes will be permitted to cross the bridge between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily. Stopping on the bridge is strictly prohibited to ensure safety, and all cargo trucks and large vehicles are required to continue using the designated bypass route.

Ministry spokesperson Phon Rim noted that construction of the bridge is nearing completion. Following the temporary opening, the bridge will be closed again to allow the construction team to finalize key tasks, including the installation of handrails, asphalt concrete surfacing, road markings, traffic signage, and other finishing works.

Bridge No. 28 is part of a broader effort to improve transportation infrastructure in remote and mountainous areas of Cambodia, and its full completion is expected to enhance connectivity and economic activity in the region.
